Landing

When it was a bit warmer than now, the birdfeeder used to be an interesting thing to observe, visited mostly by what looked like the common house sparrows. No other bird got a chance to get close to it with the sparrows firecly guarding their territory. They spent half their time and energy chasing away other birds rather than eat. Since these sparrows are so aggressive and territorial, I wonder why the word is called 'ravenous' after the poor bird that is actually known to share his/her food.
